Welcome to Lily's House: The Tenth House
The Tenth House is your sector of status. It is the place where you find out what effects
your life is having on the lives of others. It is the sector where you clearly see your motivation to achieve.
Some of us have an active sector of status and  others have less emphasis on this issue. It all depends on
your particular karma, and how much unrecognized and unfulfilled need you have for honor, integrity, and
leadership.
This sector shows your desires for recognition, or your desire to avoid recognition. I use the sector of career
and status to help my clients to determine their own motivation for work and career. What career you
choose and your success is shown in the 10th house. Success in the world is the way the outward side of
man can be measured. Fame and recognition is potential in the charts of people with a very active sector of
status. Good reputation is determined by the amount of conscientious effort you put into your daily work. A
sound reputation is the basis of people trusting you. That's real power.
Interestingly enough, the tenth house represents a time of day. The time symbolized by the sector of status
is 12 p.m. That is the most open and visible time of day, when the Sun beams down directly from above. In
your chart, career efforts represent "high noon: showdown at the OK Corral." No secrets are expected in
honest business and honest information culture. Honest leadership is initiated at the stroke of noon, when
the cleansing and uplifting power of the Sun is strongest. It is meant to symbolize the potency of the king,
and his future rule by generation of ancestors. This is why the US presidential inauguration is held at around
noon traditionally. It is a gesture of trust to inaugurate the new administration at noon, in public, where the
entire populace can see that they have no tricks up their sleeves. Imagine, the same ceremony held after
dark. It is somehow wrong, as if the is less than honest disclosure. In symbolic terms, midnight, the darkest
time of night, contrasts with the brightest time of day.
This part of your chart tells how you feel about authority. Your attitudes toward teachers, cops and parent
figures is shown by your natal chart. Are you a rebel, or are you an altruist? Do you assign an important
place for self sufficiency? Your tenth house will reflect how this is done, how it turns out for you every time.
How do you wish to express yourself to the world? The tenth sector is also called the house of reputation,
where we meet the good or bad consequences of our actions in the world.
A good way to understand the tenth house is to understand the fourth house, your sector of family. Do you
ever notice that people have a choice between work and home? People have to make a choice between an
outward focus and an inward focus. Most people try to strike a balance so that both the wife and the boss
are pleased. Sometimes trouble erupts from people making judgements about how you should spend your
time. Those who righteously point to the home as more important than the office or workshop need to
rethink their values. The career sector needs to be recognized as the place where we join the larger
community in mature matters, and how we want to be remembered after we die.
Richard Nixon was crucified in the sector of reputation. It helps to  understand how your own sector of
reputation might help or hurt your overall standing on earth, when the last roll call of souls is summoned. How
will history remember you? What did you do? Did you change society, or did you stick in with the crowd?
Next week I will expand on these ideas with a true story of Nixon's fall, with the astrological emphasis on the
wrong and right things he did. The story of Richard Nixon's fall from grace was first told by Rob Hand, an
astrologer who is considered a very knowledgeable and capable person, with a deep understanding of how
astrology and bad karma work hand in hand.

The houses refer to place or setting for life on Earth. In this series, I will share some real insider info about each
house. The science and the geography of the houses is less important than the poetry of them. I hope to fill
your need for a lightening fast comprehension of your
own inner thoughts of the past, when you had questions about the reality you live in. Perhaps you will be
inspired to observe the stage
we all play on, that fiction we call the houses of the horoscope.
