Virgo, The Goddess' Little Helper

    by Lily Satterfield

This month, as summer is on the wane, we have the perfect opportunity to discuss Virgo.  We feel a slight
change in the air, perhaps a chill at night. Virgo is about the soul of this mercurial season. In many ways, we
have not begun to enjoy the summer till Aug 23, when Virgo starts. The best times for fun seem to come at the
end of summer, when we have lots of skills built up, either athletic or lounging skills. We begin to get the urge
to straighten things up, and to prepare for colder times ahead, when we feel a calling to serve the tribe. Enter
the Goddess in her form as the Divine Servant.

If your sign is Virgo, you need to understand that the Great Goddess lives through you! She has showed up
before as the Nurturer (Cancer) and the Quartermaster (Taurus). She now appears as the doctor/holy
person/helper for you. Any person born as a Virgo knows a burning, otherworldly urge to service. You have
the divine calling to bring healing and help to others. In you, the Goddess is going beyond the concepts of
ownership and family ties. She is ready to fulfill service to the tribe. For humanity, this is a big idea, the
concept of performing service on the basis of tribe. This advancement allowed the development of
professional services, something all of us rely on in today’s world. Imagine if no one felt a calling to help
outside their immediate family. Our society would be unable to function without hairdressers, doctors, child
care experts, car repair specialists, the list goes on. To understand yourself, Virgo, know that you have a
    calling.

Most Virgos like to become professional specialists. The mental capacities of their sign are great. Skill building
is a constant and essential activity for Virgos, even if the skill is lassoing butterflies! This is Mercury’s influence
    again.

In the early 1990’s, revised feminist history came to the forefront with works which took another look at the role
of women, such as Mother Peace Tarot, by author and historian Vickie Noble. At that time I started realizing
the immense possibilities of non linear, non western models of society. My understanding of the Virgo sign was
deepened greatly by looking across cultures to find the common traits of all societies.

Virgo represents the doctor/holy person of any given society. They feel a generalized sense of obligation to
the tribe. The key to wooing and drawing them closer is this: they will give you everything they have AFTER
they do their work FOR THE TRIBE, what ever that may be. If you understand this you will get much better
love out of them! Know where you fit in the tribal scheme of things and a Virgo will respect you.

Seldom do holy people seek to be like others, and some may be perfectionists or even eccentric. They are
independent of other people, yet they can’t live without other people (the tribe thing again). If you want a
mercurial holy child to pay attention, you have to fit into their working life and not conflict with it.

Do you hear me, dreamy Pisces, or chatty and companionable Gemini? You may find Virgos irritating. They
understand. A holy person is a person with a calling. Even though their work may seem common, they elevate
work to a very high place of importance in life.

Learn to live with their other ties, and develop trust with your Virgo love. This applies to male and female
Virgos. Let them do their service mission as they see fit and they will become stronger to make sure that the
two of you can get out for that healthy outing, equipment show or sport motoring club. They love to have fun,
but it is usually specialized and focused activities that make your love happy. Unfortunately, those very
activities that Virgo likes may exclude others by the specialized nature of their interests. You can go along, but
you might be bored. Companionship is not the top priority, so a couple needs to develop real mutual interests
    together to strengthen their bond.

I have personally talked with thousands of people who love a Virgo. The number one complaint about Virgos
is that they don’t seem to be emotionally close and available.

If you are a Virgo and have this problem, you might be grumpy. Anyone who follows an inner principle in life
may be misunderstood. Communication is a lot of work, and that work may be best done semi alone, thinking
about the effect we have on others.

What is the positive side of understanding your Virgo, so love can blossom? They are your best sign for
compatibility if you understand that they are devoted to a cause and they are unselfish givers of their time and
energy. If you need help, need something fixed, a Virgo is the great problem solver. They analyze things fast
    and are practical thinkers.

There are other rewards too. As the natives of both sexes age, they often take care of themselves. Virgos
have a fascination for health, and they enjoy keeping healthy and fit, sometimes to the point of hypochondria.
They often age well because of this focus on health.

Also, with age comes better freedom for the changeable late summer born. Freedom is important to them.
Often times aging is a welcome boon, giving them more credibility. Did I mention they often look young into old
age? One famous Virgo seems to embody the fascinating contradictions of the Mercury ruled is the actress
Greta Garbo. Breathtakingly beautiful and magnetic on film, she was very unique and eccentric. Aging did not
mellow her, quite the contrary; she got more exciting and unavailable as she aged. One day she retired and
became a famous glamorous and mysterious recluse.

Sean Connery is also a Virgo by birth. His neat good looks in the 1960’s movies were perfect for his role as
the gadget wielding spy 007, who strikes me as a Virgo energy too. His flashy ways of driving may seem un
Virginal, but don’t worry, Virgins are not always shy about sex and adventure. Their “virginity” refers to their
deep seated desire to be independent to pursue their calling to perfection! Don’t mistake them for prudes.
Physical life is a study to them. That includes realistic attitudes about sex. You could do worse.

Finally, if you respect the tribe, a Virgo will respect you. If you set an example to inspire them, that would be
showing that you have a set of standards about life and work. Follow these simple rules and you can attract
this beautiful and devoted Goddess of Love of Service into your life.
